"Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak
Courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen."
~ Sir Winston Churchill ~
In October 1924, a group of men assembled by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley met in the basement of the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, U.S.A., forming a club to afford practice and training in the art of public speaking and in presiding over meetings, and to promote sociability and good fellowship among its members. The group took the name Toastmasters. Northern Exposure Toastmasters Club, is a local chapter of Toastmasters International.
Today, Toastmasters International and local clubs such as Northern Exposure Toastmasters are non-profit organization which gives its members the opportunity to develop and improve their public speaking and leadership abilities through local club meetings, training seminars and speech contests.
Become a Better Speaker
Experienced professionals and beginning speakers alike can benefit from our practical, face-to-face learning program. Whether you're speaking to the board of directors, your customers, your co-workers or your kids, Toastmasters can help you do it better. Toastmasters will give you the skills and confidence you need to effectively express yourself in any situation.
Become a Better Leader
Leadership is the art of understanding the needs of others and guiding them to achieve common goals. Toastmasters can help you do both. Learn leadership theories and put them into practice within the club. You can then apply these theories to everyday situations at work or home.
Conquer Your Fears of Public Speaking!
You'll learn and practice in a friendly, comfortable environment with people who are there for the same reason as you to become better communicators. At Northern Exposure Toastmasters, members learn by speaking to groups and working with others. Each meeting gives members the opportunity to participate by giving impromptu speeches, presenting prepared speeches, and offering constructive evaluation.
